ERIC!!!!! I am going to have to sit in front of my streaming fireplace and cry in a minute. That means so, so much coming from such a thoughtful, talented writer as you. I deeply appreciate it. And yes, you have my permission to just go spoon-to-pint direct..as God and Ben and Jerry intended. X!
I had no idea that Ben had no sense of smell! Ben and Jerry’s ice cream is some of the best out there. My uncle lives in Burlington, so he would talk about going to see the facility. I probably did a tour when very young, but I have no memory of it… Next New England trip, must put it on the list.
Hi Renee! I was also shocked to discover that and thought it was so funny that his condition was basically an enormous gift to the whole enterprise. I still find their ice cream to be superior. When I got married, instead of a cake we did an ice cream sundae bar and we worked with one of the B&J scoop shops near our venue to get all the goodies. It was so fun and memorable. The tour is definitely work it. There's just a lot of good, positive energy, and they continue to do a ton of good in the world. Move it up in the cue! :)
Ice cream sundae bar sounds amazing for a wedding! B&J ice cream is worth every penny, but it's so expensive that I only treat myself to a tiny pint every once in a while. Gotta savor those bites!
Love this Sheils! Your stories always make me want to get on a plane and visit the eastern seaboard right now. I have never seen that Churray for Churros flavor anywhere! I feel so deprived. Well, I don't blame B&J for wanting to keep that one as an exclusive for the factory tour. Oh you sneaky Flavor Guru!! 🍦
When you can you will wing east and the two of us will level Boston in the best possible way! :) The Churray for Churros may have made it into ice cream shops, but definitely not stores. It tasted a lot like the oatmeal cookie one--GET IT TOGETHER FLAVOR GURU! YOU ARE REPEATING YOURSELF!! :) I am clinking a spoon with you right now. X!
What a piece! There's so much heart and humor in this article. It might be my favorite thing you've ever written--which is really saying something!
Your work is so infused with humanity and hope and I just love it. It's like going home for Thanksgiving.
Also, I'm now dying for some ice cream.
