As always, you make me laugh out loud. I'm late to the party here. Wednesday was a , whirlwind, and Thursday—did this happen? I constantly fear buying furniture because it requires me to take measurements and use math. Desks included. Not to mention building furniture, because let's face it, I still live like I'm in Ikea mode, even if I now use Amazon, cause I'm not schlepping the hour to Ikea and dealing with recycled air and Swedish meatball smells wafting in the air. I currently use a desk I fear will one day soon turn to rubble under the weight that comes from the pressure of monitors, calendars, laptops, random water bottles, strewn notes, and expensive hand cream I never use.

And like you, I never stare out of my window at the neighbors. NEVER! I'm all work and no distractions.

YES! I also think the DESK MATH is conspiring against me. This accounts for about 98% of my lack of success and greatness. Maybe we should all go back to parchment and quills...but then WHERE to get the best parchment? I'll start researching this....tomorrow. :)

Alright I think maybe the desk was worth every penny and all the creative angst along the way for this essay to have been spawned!!!

I will see if I can find it again..it truly was sooooo lovely…I should have delved deeper into the seller because maybe road trip? Could still happen!

Yes road trip, it would be like when Deborah and Ava made a pit stop during DV's tour at a yard sale to get that $20k dresser for only $150! Yes I *FINALLY* started on Hacks. I have many thoughts but suffice it to say for now that I am obsessed. Have a few more eppies to go on S2 and hopefully soon be caught up with you and Eric through S3!

Put that damn thing out on the sidewalk, Sheila, with a sign on it: "FREE". If no one takes it after two days, put a sign in it: FOR SALE - $20". Someone will steal it and problem over. I have found that sometimes it is better to just start from zero. Borrow a pick-up and spend a day making the rounds of local antiques malls? You'll find your desk there. Good luck

That is not a bad idea Sharron! The key to unlocking my true, TRUE greatness is probably at an estate sale…SOMEWHERE!! This makes absolute sense :)

I may have detected your problem...

"Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!" Poor Jan never got the street cred she deserved. Cindy's likely MAGA now, but Jan is no Karen, and Marcia is no queen.

Don't get me started on the boys.

Those Bradys were a piece of work, were they not? You know Jan has probably paid for a few therapists’ beach homes by now. I still think we need the untold story of Alice. I bet she’s former CIA…..

Reminds me of the story Stephen King tells in On Writing, about how he wanted a massive desk once he got successful, I guess as an outward sign he was a writer, for real (money must be a cold comfort indeed). The desk became an albatross personally and professionally, so he eventually got rid of it.

It's funny the things we convince ourselves we need.

I remember that moment from his book as well. And I remember having that feeling of “He IS a regularish human person.” If you are ever in doubt that it’s not all totally right here (does the E.T. thing), I encourage you to watch the training montage from Rocky IV where Sly pulls a sled in the snow while Drago runs on his supersonic, space age treadmill. Yep.
