I hadn’t seen the Birdman in months, but there he was standing at the edge of the trail that disappears off onto a wooden observation platform thrust out over one of the estuary’s smaller inlets.
He sort of looks the part! He is always all in black and, now at least, he tries to be more inconspicuous..but I am ONTO YOU, BIRDMAN! You come for the ducks, you best not miss :) (That's a Wire-ism if you haven't stumbled upon it yet) :)
Interaction with birds brings me joy, it first started 5 years ago with a hummingbird looking at me through the patio window as if to say "hey, we're here and thirsty" which prompted me to order a feeder with rush delivery, I now have 6 feeders and at least 4 resident couples and they stay year round! Then in '20 pump went out on a fountain and instead of replacing it I started putting seed in it for a dove couple that were using a patio basket as a nest, last year 5 different hatchings occurred, all fledged successfully. Now Sparrows, Robins and Blue Jays(bullies) also come to visit, along with seasonal varieties like tiny colorful finches...pure joy 💚
Shire--that sounds like PURE MAGIC! I'm so happy for you and your sweet little visitors. I am all for creating any and all conditions to support these feathered friends, done with integrity and respect :) It sounds like the word is out about your all-you-can-eat-buffet! You might have to keep expanding!
A perfect last line…
Thanks so much, Glenn! I saw more signs in the estuary the other day; we are onto you, Birdman! :)
I love the whole Birdman story, but the final paragraph of your blog this time was the chef’s kiss. Bravo!
HAAA!!! Awww…you are so funny & sweet. Like, PRIORITIES people!!! Minga. 😘
The image of birdman as a dealer out of something like The Wire is just too good.
What a strange bird, though.

Truly, I referred to the Sparrows as 'the flock of 5' for weeks but yesterday counted 9, so you know they told a few friends!
Lucky all of you!!
