I worked for about 10 years off and on in the food service industry and The Bear NAILS what working in this industry is like. EVERYTHING is so spot on. Along with having lived in Chicago for the past 24ish years, they (producers, writers, cast) also nail that whole Chicago vibe.

I'm trying to wait for a day that I'll have where I can plow through the entire 3rd season without being bothered by cats or husband.

I've heard this same thing from others in the industry, a few to the point where it's slightly triggering. I wish Anthony Bourdain had lived to see and probably contribute to this show; I think he would have truly loved it. There's so much to dig into about this show, I didn't really scratch the surface and am sure I'll write about it again. I'm going to try and spoon out this new season, but I'm sure I'll just shovel it in my face. :) Thanks!!

It can be very triggering, not just from a food service pov, but also family.

Still, this show has earned and deserved every award won.

Oh very, very much yes. I haven't met a single person yet who can't relate to some aspect of the family dynamics. But I think it's all delivered in a very real way. This doesn't feel like trauma-porn like Succession did at points. It feels like you know these broken people because you have these people in your life or you are in some kind of struggling place yourself. SO GOOD! Though I almost didn't make it through a second viewing of "Fishes." That was far more traumatic than the first time around. Phew! :)

Thanks Mighty One! I really, really appreciate it. Trying out a few new things here…we’ll have coffee and chat. I also have to wait for my Jeremy Allen White Drool-a-thon…I mean BEAR fix…as I’m helping out my mom for a few days in NH. X!

Sheila your Venn diagram is amazing - I laughed hard over those guilty pleasures being stashed "on the bottom shelf of the pantry behind the boxes of Kashi." So good!

HA! Thanks Diana! You are so kind. Isn’t that what all the Kashi is for? I know you’ve got dark Belgium chocolate and a Danielle Steele novel back there…DON’T LIE!!!

I've actually never read Danielle Steele - should I? I do treat myself to a romance novel every once in a while, it's fun and not depressing!

See! Own it!!! I’ve never Danielle Stolen, either but feel like there is untapped comic potential there 😉 Romances are awesome! For me the TV equivalent is something like Virgin River….they are the bottomless guac & chip bowl of books and tv! 😉

We watched the 3rd episode of The Bear last night and I'm getting a sense of the shape of it. It's still chaotic but not as shouty. Or maybe I've just become inoculated. True story: When we were making dinner the other night, I started saying "yes, chef," to my wife. It's a sign of respect!

At the moment, "cousin" Richie and the Latina woman whose name escapes me are on my crap list, him because he's openly insubordinate and also disrespectful of Carmy's mad skills, her because she vindictively ruined Sydney's rue. Tho I suspect the show will eventually bring me around on them, too. I'm looking forward to seeing how that happens. It's like how Deadwood gradually brings you around to Al's way of thinking. Good dramas are like that. It's not about good or bad. There are no judgment statements at all. It's just life.

Seriously tho, Riggins. C'mon, man.

First: RIGGINS!!! GET IT TOGETHER, BROTHER! You, my good man, are NO Jason Street! Second: You are going to fine-dine-one-Michelin star-dish those words on Cousin and Tina (the Latina chef). Their respective evolutions--holeee smokes, kid. I cried at least once during some part of every single damn episode of season two. Hang in there...SO WORTH IT!! We also started throwing around "HEARD, CHEF!" because why not, right? :)
