Okay, Okay, that did it! I am going to hole up in my room and binge watch Valley Girls and Fast Time at Ridgemont High tonight. Might as well throw in Brats as well. I'll get back to you.
Now this line got me, Sheila "We make disposable creative works that are not only okay enough, but they are made to satiate our shallow appetites." I am combing through all 300 of my Substack posts and flat out deleting all the ones that fit that description. I do NOT want to
be in any category that is "disposable", "shallow", or "okay enough"! Thank you.
Sharron, I love this plan for you! Brats might be a little weird, though. I liked it, but I was also kinda expecting something else, and in the end, I was like, Andrew, you need therapy and maybe some anti-anxiety meds.
Sharron---I am with you on that. There's too much GREAT stuff getting crowded out by the flood of "sure, whatever, it's fine." PRUNE AWAY MY FRIEND!! I'll see you in the patch
We did and The Plimsouls and Josie Cotton are in the movie. I always get teary eyed for my birthplace of L.A. and gallivanting around Hollywood. I left in 98. Those days of innocence make me teary eyed. I loved the film, came out when I was just 18.
The soundtrack is so totally rad. Did a little Googling about the Josie Cotton song, which I hadn't heard in years. Funny thing about that song is that it was widely attacked by both anti-gay group and LGBTQ activist. In reality, as Josie pointed out, the main character in the song is basically so self-centered that she can't imagine a guy who doesn't want her.
My punk rock friends and I ditched high school that day and went down to KROQ where Rodney Bingenheimer got his start. There was a protest against the song so we went down and protested against the moral majority. I used to work for her label a year later.
I remember that movie and the Moon Unit song— the chanteuse was 2 yrs behind me at Birmingham HS. Good movie.
I remembered the Moon Unit tune as well and had no idea what was happening in it. This flick is surprisingly solid!
I’ll have to watch it again. Always loved Cage.
He is actually tremendous in this! Already really developed and skilled. Awesome to watch
You went to Birmingham HS!? No way. My mom went there. Small world.
Haha. I graduated in ‘81. One sister in ‘79 and the other in ‘77.
I think my mom graduated in ‘66. Her brother went there too, class of ‘64.
Sally Field was there at that time I believe.

She's also still been touring recently.
Hope she comes to LA. I wanna see her. Also, hoping that Gen-Z randomly discovers Johnny on TikTok. That would be hilarious.
They should just randomly buy records.

You were living the L.A. dream Lori! I loved that it was such a Valentine to the city!
I'm so fortunate to have had a fun time in my youth. 🙌
