Two things:

First can we talk about the lost art of the mid-to-late 90s photo? Digital photgraphy is amazing, but there's something cool about the pics we took in HS & jsut after. Maybe I'm just showing my age here.

Second: My son's both had to do a "big ride" as part of their gym class in junior high. I think it was about the same distance as this? The helicopter parents had a LOT of strong thoughts.

You're so right, Kevin--the image processing from that time period is kind of cool, isn't it? It's probably why we also still love Polaroids. :) Your sons are crazy lucky they got to do a trip like that! I can only IMAGINE the parental text thread chain....cheers to being part of the "come home when the street lights turn on" generation! :) And thanks for the read...always appreciate it!

This and the annual announcement for the district about not wearing Halloween containers are usually good for raising some hackles. You can set your watch to it.

Omigod! You would think with all the time our parents spent NOT paying attention to us that they would have come up with renewable energy and the cure for diabetes, right? :)

One would think!

The history! The glamour shots! The hilarity! I'm having a hard time figuring out what I love best about this post. :D

I didn't see the David Hasselhoff joke coming. It legitimately got me. Well played!

HAAAAA!! Like the rhythm, the Hoff will get you! I was pleased with that one as well. Thanks my friend! You are always way too kind and generous. Grateful. X!

HAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!! You know.

I really would love to know what thought went into that. I mean, you have a front row seat to history being made (or are making it) and someone suggests putting the Hoff up on the Wall?

Kevin--I would love to read something of yours to the effect of "unlikely" musical artists. One that comes to mind right away is Steve Martin. Sure, he was using the banjo in his comedy act from the jump, but did you ever think he'd have a Grammy for music?

Oh, that's a great idea! I need to think of who else might fit the bill.

Jack Black, maybe...the super weird Dad Rock Writers group with Dave Barry, Stephen King...I’m sure there a bunch!

Thank you for the anonymity of “close girlfriend” in your retelling of one of our many zany adventures. However, I accept all notoriety for this honor of leading you back to the ‘Henge. All residuals from this article, as well as my contributions of photography can be Venmo’d (is this a noun or verb… I honestly don’t know) directly to moi.

And no, I don’t think you’re spooky. 👻 👽

I protect my sources. Dude..once we broke the seal, that Henge got GOTTEN! I probably spiked tourism 150% between '96 and '97 alone. Might need to "GO BACK!!!" (#Jack) for a revisit...the winter solstice IS swiftly approaching. I will go all Cas. Mulder of course. VenMOE-ing your .00008 cents in 3....2....... :) X!

That Henge is definitely way out and way hardcore via the legend of the rent. Stay classy, Slam’em, NH <wink>

The Henge was always working in a whole other level. 100%!

Our town's historical markers have been replicated by a company that turned them into Christmas ornaments. My mother sent me a new one every year until now my tree is covered with shiny replicated shrines as "St. Agnes' Church" "Israel's River" (this one is a masterpiece of squiggles and trees with a boulder or two in the middle), "The Little Red Schoolhouse" - where my father actually lived for a few decades long after it operated as a site dedicated to education," and many more spots which I recall chiefly as places we passed on the school bus every morning in the dark. Mainly we were known more as the home of the much less historic Six Gun City and Santa's Village.

I love your leaf photos!

I love this, Elizabeth! VERY Stars Hollow :) in the best possible way....cool keepsakes to hand down...I remember both Six Gun City and Santa's Village! I only made it to the Village once with a grade school friend and her family who were much more adventurous than mine in sussing out fun places within driving distance. As I said--all of it adds character! And thanks on the photos--it is still very much a magical time of year here..even without the white stuff :)
