Is the baked goods contest still going on Sheils?! Although I won't be able to to top your story title as it is already fantastic! I love seeing all that over the top fashion stuff. Cardi B's skirt was so huge, I think she needed twice as many handlers as Mindy Kaling. It was so heavy, the skirt wranglers went into Cardi-ac arrest from having to maneuver it all night. And don't even get me started on Camila Cabello's clutch! Lana Del Rey's costume - well I thought she looked like one of the murder victims in Season 1 of True Detective. But it's all part of the fun!
The baked goods contest is INFINITE!!! Cookie Monster is on my family crest 😉 SAME!! I honestly could have lived perfectly fine never knowing anything else about why the Gala happens! The spectacle and display and performance and theatrics are EVERYTHING! I think this year was particularly on fire. I hope everyone’s bathroom handlers get the week off….with pay! 😉💕
Speaking of theatrics!! I am so bummed for Here Lies Love, it did get 4 Tony nominations but not any for the performers or Best Musical 😭 Although hurray for David Byrne and Fatboy Slim for Best Score! Hopefully they can win 🤞
So fun...loved reading this. Also love that Demi Moore's dress exaggerated the hips...Hope to see that fashion trend explode! Gorgeous photos. just so pretty and vivid and mood-lifting. Thank you! xoxo
HA! Thanks Karen! It was just kind of a fun one to tick off. I love the theatricality of all the fashion. I think all women should get the standard-arrow-issued clothing design from now on. Can't send us any farther backward, can it? :)
I am originally from the Midwest but never thought I was that much of a rube. But I am. Until this year I thought it was for the Metropolitan Opera. I have never been so humiliated in my life as when I said that at a dinner party here on the Oregon Coast, dang elites always catching me pretending.
I would've shown up to the wrong building completely.
HAAAAAAAAA!!! Not a rube at all! I would say a..umm NORMAL? :) I had no idea it was to benefit the fashion institute and always thought it was to benefit either the museum OR opera..so maybe the REAL take-away here is DO BETTER WITH YOUR ELITIST BRANDING, MET GALA! They should hire Sterling Cooper to sort this all out. In the meantime I will start making my gala gown for next year. The theme is, hopefully, cozy pants and faded college sweatshirt....:)
When I go to The Gala next year I’m going to show up to the correct building. I mean, I was standing there in a tux made of multi-colored sandwich bags and a fedora and the people at the opera kept giving me funny looks! 🥹
They just didn't get your whole MESSAGE. I mean, can you blame them? They are listening to people singing in Italian after having only done one Duolingo session. THEY'RE the ones who are lost, my friend. Not us! I am currently writing this standing outside the MET Life Insurance Building outfitted in gala appropriate yoga pants and Billy Joel River of Dreams concert tee. WHERE IS THE RED CARPET?!
😆 My overall theme for my sandwich bag tux was “bologna sandwiches for all!” …. but the Gala had already bought out all the bologna in town for hors d’oeuvres, and hence, attendees had proven my point by being completely full of bologna by the end of the night. But at least it was high end bologna.
Glad I didn’t show up at the Insurance Building!!☺️
I super don't get the whole MET thing but I loved your take on it and also love The Devil Wears Prada, which feels MET adjacent. So I'm not a total knuckle-dragger.
I also love Devil Wears Prada as well as Emily in Paris and the riDONKulous fashion of SATC. I think I'm just in awe of anyone who can credibly carry anything other than Levis and something out of the Eddie Bauer line! I try and sneak in an Eric Pierce Easter egg when I get a chance :) Grazie!
Maybe we should have a virtual red carpet to show off our "ready-to-write" fashions. You have your hoodie. I have my pink flannel pajamas with movie popcorn boxes printed all over them ( thank you, Costco).
Oooohhh! I LOVE that idea!! It would be a "what are you wearing?!" "It's the Underpaid Artist Collection from Kohls! I used my Kohls bucks...natch!!" :) I think this would be very popular. We might have a sponsorship bidding war between Target and whatever J.C. Pennys is now! And isn't this spring just LIT with blooms?! It's been a good one..indeed! :)
Great reporting! Fabulous photos! I look forward to your post every week. Thank you
Sharon!! You are so wonderful! I am happy to play around in this sandbox; thanks for being here 🙏🏻💗

I saw that!! I think a lot of people were surprised about that. Yeah-a win for that score would be incredible! 💥

Locally and ethically sourced bologna I assume! You don't want to wind up in the GOOP crosshairs over something like that!
Yes , yes, of course 😅😅😅!!

Love the photo captions! :D

I'm always on the lookout for Easter eggs!
