Beautiful words and pictures as always! I'll be honest, I was expecting something spooky given the Sleepy Hollow name. Glad everyone you encountered still had their heads about them. :)
Okay, enough pleasantries. I was so excited to see the return of my favorite Soviet spies! I want a story about them, mkay? Shh: tell no one!
You know, I’m not sure why it has that name either! Maybe even in the 1800s NY real estate was sky high. And in my defense, there is a witch in the story! I confess that I sprung Boris and Natasha especially for you! I wish I could draw-would make a pretty silly graphic novel! I’ll see what I can do per your request....all very secrety of course! 😉
“And I think it’s a blessing in disguise, freeing people from the lemming mentality we’ve perfected of following the trail of viral breadcrumbs instead of discovering what moves us on our own.”
So much this! I’m also with you on the disappointment when my expectations have been pushed so high that nothing can meet them. There are so many cool things to do in the world, let’s find joy in our own ways instead of going off of the popular lists all the time.
Absolutely Renee! You said it beautifully. Sometimes you have to see the hype to decide for yourself, but in general I say go where your heart takes you. Wherever you wind up will have YOUR unique "finger print" on the art or expression that comes from it..right? :) Happy wandering! :) X!
Yay, I missed you Boris and Nat! Great photos and essay as usual Sheils. As usual I tune in both for the stunning photos and the crackling bon mots - this one was my fave: "The farm is on Cloudland Road (real name, not rejected titles of the Virgin River spin-off series)"
I am trying to practice my witticism skillz so I can be as good as you some day, so I thought of a couple based on this essay -
Q: What is Pomfret, VT?
A: A quaint hamlet wherein the residents worry about both cheerleaders' implements, and a certain brand of juice made with the pomegranate fruit
I'll save the other one for later! It'll be equally as stupid 😆
Oh and just to be clear: I would ABSOLUTELY binge 7 seasons and a movie of Cloundland Road. If for no other reason than to find out if Dalton and Amber FINALLY tie the knot!! :) X!
That indeed sounds like something NFLX better get on! Now that both you and Eric mentioned Virgin River recently, and alls I know about it is that it has Alexandra Breckenridge from This Is Us, I just googled the cast listing.
It also has Stacey Farber from Degrassi TNG?!!! I loved her as Ellie, she was one of my fave characters. I'll have to look up which season(s) she featured in and give a bit of a watch. AFTER I binge Homeland and Band of Brothers. I am stanning Damian Lewis these days after discovering Billions!
Oooh!!!! You are speaking right to my TV heart!!! Virgin River is frothy, but the scenery is awesome! A lot of the writing/plots not great--it’s comfort food. We are behind our Billions eps, but still one of my favorite shows. The chemistry between Lewis & the character Wags, and Paul Giametti is masterful. VERY smart writing & clever music influences woven throughout. NOM away!!
Yes, whoever is picking out the songs, give them an Emmy and when are they gonna put out a Billions OST?! Not sure if you are on this eppy yet, but the theme was clearly about parenting, and they overlaid the most perfect song (hint - it's by Cat Stevens).
Even my hubs who is ignorant about pop songs other than French ones sung by Edith Piaf, was singing along. Made me ugly cry! 😭
The Billions crew must have put billions in their licensing! Almost every episode my husband and I are like “Oh. They have Bruce Springsteen money...” Agreed on the OST! I bet people have Spotify playlists?
HAAAAAA!!! You're AHdorable, Marmi!! So funny! Bon ON the mot, I say! You've got it. I have also thought the town probably deserves some cash action from Big Juice on that name. I'll have some lawyers look into :) I missed Boris and Natasha as well..but shhh! tell no one! Very secrety :) X!
Ooooo so good. This is so funny and so good. The duck lips and the lady and you in between. This encapsulates so much, this moment with the land and the four of you is a snapshot of...so much. And the beauty everywhere mantra. And yes....YES. We do lose our damn minds, and I can't help it. Even as a VT part-resident, I bow down to the leaves. They smell like candy, too, when you're riding your bike over them in Morristown, VT. I love your photos so much, Sheila.
Thanks mighty Ms. Karen! I don't care if it's the Mona Lisa--if it doesn't zing with you, it just doesn't. All of my "stumbled upon this" captures are my favorites...100%. I am also rolling in the leaves. When I was bombing around the backgrounds of Vermont last week, I was like one of those chocolate labs with her head hanging out of the window...in spirit at least....DECORATIVE GOURDE SEASON 4LYFE!! X!
Ugh, influencers.

I can't draw either but I also wish I could!
Right? We’d be unstoppable!!!
