LOLOL this is the funniest thing I've read in a long time! "Take that nonsense to Toledo, fool." "Norman contains multitudes." "Bob and Norman. That will be something for the police to go on." So many amazing lines! Tell me, writer to writer: Are you as effortlessly funny as it seems? Or do you slave over lines for days? Never mind, you're brilliant, I already know. In and out. Very clean.
This was sneakily sentimental and funny as shit. You are awesome, Sheila Moeschen.
Eric--YOU CHAHHMMAAAHH!!! So kind and so generous of you. I'm really, REALLY grateful and super happy this one made you smile. Being such a witty fella yourself, you know that neither a humorist NOR an ILLLUUSSIONIST (Michael) reveals her secrets. A lot of this stuff pin-balls around my brain just looking for an escape route :) YOU are pretty awesome yourself. About to jump into crane kickin' in the Valley...stay tuned! X!!
I love this so much and can relate to folks and their furbabies I used to avoid but don’t (much) anymore! The Grey’s reference cracked me up, and I could picture you saying BYYEE to Noooooorrrrmmmannnn! 😆 ❤️
Tara--I knew you'd get it :) It's really the furbabies that tractor beam us in, isn't it? I've added a few more on this trail: Denali (gorgeous Siberian husky who sees me and drops, belly up, right in the dirt. HUSSY!!!) and Shermie, some kind of orange-ish rescue who is just a total love. It's worth breaking the NE CODE..every. damn. time. :) X!
I was riveted by this my friend! You got me all invested in Bob and Norman. I was really worried that you wouldn't ever see B again. Has happened to me before, visiting someone and then it turns out to be the last time. So, I'm really glad both B&N turned out to be ok and you could go back to your clean In N Out way of doing things <3
Used to live in NC for half a year and there were a few friends we made, but tellingly all of them were not native to Charlotte where we relocated from Cali for my work. Let's just say the best things about that state (which indeed was on the Confederate flag-waving side of the Civil War, so def counts as the South) were Asheville, my fave grocery store of all time Lidl, and the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden. And seeing fireflies for the first and only time. And the working goldmine, but honestly that's it. Never going back except for a visit and say if either of our kids want to attend Duke when they reach college age.
But back to keeping things detached as far as newfound friends. I say screw that! I was so excited when I got the Tori Amos book from you that I couldn't wait to tell my hubs, and he found it so touching and was sincerely moved. "Why don't you invite Sheila over to stay in our house?" So my friend - consider that you and your partner have a standing invitation to our home, whenever you find yourself in the area!
HAAAA!! you are a gift, Marmi! As I said..there ARE exceptions to every rule...ummm, you have your entire liver, right? Asking for a friend :) I am a proud New Englander, but am accept that maybe I'm also an old soul from elsewhere :) Asheville is very cool. There are nooks and crannies that shine. Good to visit, glad to be home :) And I have no doubt that our paths will cross for realsies in no time at all! YAY!!! :)
Most pet owners in our building have dogs. I know the pets names and almost none of the owners names. All of the dogs know me because I always greet them with a "Hi puppy!" (Never mind that these dogs are hardly puppies.) This was a sweet story, thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much Kim! That means a lot! You are so right--there is something special about pups (no matter the age). They can be such sweet connectors. We are lucky they let us stick around..as soon as they evolve opposable thumbs we are hooped! :)
Thanks Charlie! I'm sorry I made you fret! I was also really glad to run into them after all those months. I think it will take more than a bum knee to take either Bob or Norman out of the game! I agree with you on the names thing--it makes me laugh, very "Bert and Ernie" you know? Cheers to keeping it clean, but also finding new friends in the middle, like you said! :)

Top shelf Office reference! 😂
That show, right? Still holds up...the original seasons at least. I never get tired of rebinging :)

Adore this. And not just cuz of Norman the Frenchie. You got won over, Boston girl. 💜
Mighty K--shit, right? We named names. That was it. Also: Norman. Kid has GAME. I regret nothing :) X
