What a fun, lighthearted, gritty, colorful, neurotic look at a place I knew nothing about. (The source of the name "Times Square" is interesting, in and of itself.) And I never new that architecture had a Dildo Era! (Note to self: to show your worldly sophistication, one way or another, work THAT in to your next job interview. The gig will be yours.)
As for your reference to "the unspeakable things happening in the back of the Black Sabbath tour bus": I KNEW you looked familiar!!!
HAAAA! I never rock and tell, Larry! 🤫 New York has a thousand personalities it seems and all of them lovable in their own ways. I’ll be sure to put you down as a reference 😉
It's kind of its own landmark, if that makes sense. If you are seeing shows, you end up at least catching it. I don't see the appeal of going to SPEND TIME, you know? I thought of you writing this when you mentioned in a note, I think, about people being clueless, glued to their phones, wandering around. NYC is all "hold my damn beer." I can't believe there aren't more fatalities! Then again, being from Boston, if a motorist sees that they think "CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!" and hit the pedal....
"... a corral for outlandishness, for spectacle, and for rampant consumerism." Absolute requirements, if you ask me, if we are to keep our sanity in these desperate days. More madness, I say! More shopping! More drumming.

times square IS necessary. BUT NY is necessary period. The food feels more necessary than times square. like minetta
I think you’re right. It might be tacky at this point, but if it were anything but New York just wouldn’t be the same.
I hear the Wicked: For the Good panty liners have great absorbency, though...
They are all the shizz :)
I’ve been to Times Square a handful of times and loved this description (& your photos!).
Aside from going to a show or eating at a particular gf pizza place that we love, I think I could do without it for the rest of time.
We did a trip last year and stayed by Central Park though (that’s north of TS maybe?). That was def more my speed.

5 points for doinking a tourist with their head buried in a phone
I think you’d excel in that game!

I think Times Square has something figured out. Many people seem perfectly happy to call it home!
I ❤️ NY! What shows did you see my friend?
